News: Pedro Martinez's book appeared Corada

never rains on
Sáhara__________________ Book Review by Guillermo Ortiz López

is strange that the first book by an author alone is rather an anthology, a mixture of past styles and present, with notes for the future. It never rains in the Sahara, Pedro Martinez does not show the faltering hands of a writer's own novel. Precisely because it is not a novel writer.

Although his dedication to writing out late, talking about a man who read from her everything that had to be read and that it takes years and years of publishing in prestigious journals Internet worldwide. The book can be summed up perfectly in one sentence of his story to a god suicide: '(...) The blood, semen, saliva, urine, are the true mirror of the soul. "

never rains on the Sahara is full of blood, semen, saliva and urine. No Bukovsky or Burroughs-style, of course. But his characters move along the depths of the mountains, the cliffs, by the tragedies, the streets of postwar Madrid smells like lentils and secrets. A verbena. His characters are alone, with his soul and his body and pain. It is a book full of pain and nostalgia. Sadness. And is that literature need not necessarily be sad, but almost always the one who writes is a nostalgic, nostalgia and care must be incredible. Write often, is to live again what made us happy or unhappy, what made us feel something, anyway. Remember the feelings and put them on paper is not easy. It is painful but cathartic, one no longer their own cemetery and a grave is more accessible. An urn which scatter the ashes and keep them on the shelf. This book

Pedro Martinez have all, because Peter is willing to take all genres. We have manners, of course. Madrid manners. Pedro is handled with expertise in the manners rogue Madrid. But not only that: we have memories of the Civil War, tales of Asturias deep, lonely and crazy characters, immigrants who pick the wrong train ... Triana music that accompanies a trip to Germany surrounded by English.

is a book that goes from less to more, in my opinion. A book that begins with a child in the '40s and ends with a dying grandfather in the Internet age. A book that gains in fluency in recent stories, as if Peter had decided to forget a bit of style and had been carried away. The reader can only be touched with their love triangles, the reflection of the injustice, the endearing old couple announcing a future-that nostalgia really is incredible, "of playing with Alicia ... probably one of the three best stories in the collection along with all were equal, at least one and a Parquin Shooting.

seems that the keys are loose and confused ideas freely, psychopathic personalities, aggressive, improbable situations ... A break, a development with respect to distance and simplicity of style that stands out in the first stories.

course, there are social and political commitment. It would be absurd that a book of Peter, who has dedicated his life to social and political commitment, did not remember certain historical realities. Civil Guards and portraits of Franco. Maquis who return to Spain English chocolate in my suitcase. Black marketeers, Bingueros ... a series of losers whose only crime was being born at the wrong time, wrong country.

But Peter is not a moralist. Pedro draw that reality to pieces, so that the sadness, injustice, pain ... is there but does not require the reader to bebérselos as castor oil to purge their sins. No, just put it in their eyes, to do so.

never rains on the Sahara is the first work of an author bound. I know it seems a contradiction, but it is not. In its 144 pages, Pedro Martinez gives us parts of the writer who has been and mostly tells us that going to be. Should pay close attention, we will not lose anything.
